Choosing a gate

Pressure-mounted gates suit doorways and move easily between rooms. Hardware-mounted gates are the right choice at the top of stairs, where a pressure fit can shift under weight.

Measuring

Measure the opening at the height the gate will sit, since walls and banisters are rarely square, then check the listed width range and extensions. A gate is only as good as its fit; a determined dog will find a loose one.
