Cold weather

Quilted and puffer styles with a lining for real winter, and lighter fleece for cool mornings. Small, thin-coated and senior dogs need a layer at temperatures most owners find mild.

Wet weather

Water-resistant shells and hooded raincoats, most with a leash opening so a harness stays accessible underneath.

Fit and movement

Check back length first. A coat that is too long restricts the back legs and gets soiled. Look for a harness slot if your dog walks in a harness, and reflective trim for dark evenings.
